after almost 7 years with the same employer, i decided that i needed a change. i left my job to enter the world of contracting and consulting, with the hope that i'll find something interesting to do with myself. i'm excited to finally have some time to myself. i've been perpetually on-call for the last 4 years, and it's really taken a toll on my mental health, my relationships with friends and my relationship with my wife.

i've had a few offers and leads to do some network engineering work for a couple of different organizations in different sectors. i've also been in contact with a couple recruiters looking for people to do remote windows & unix systems administration. i'm considering both of these options pretty heavily.

for the moment, i'm just planning on enjoying some time away from work. maybe taking a few weeks to do work around the house and decompress before embarking on something new and hopefully exciting.
